Paw Paw Tunnel - Oldtown

The Paw Paw Tunnel is a 3,118-foot-long canal tunnel on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (C&O) in Allegany County.
It is located near Oldtown, West Virginia, it was built to bypass the Paw Paw Bends, a six-mile stretch of the Potomac River containing five horseshoe-shaped bends.

The name came from the pawpaw trees that grow prolifically along nearby ridges.

More than six million bricks,were used to bulit the tunnel.

The tunnel can be visited you can walk or ride through it.
