Route 66 Drive - In

66 Drive-In is a heritage-protected Drive-In movie theatre in Carthage. In 2003, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The original Drive-In 66 Drive-In was opened shortly after completion in September 1949 on Route 66.
The construction work was completed in early September 1949 with the completion of the 66 feet high and almost 162 feet wide steel structure and the two 15.2 m curtains.

During the work, which was carried out by a construction company from Joplin, MO, almost 30 tons of steel were installed.

Furthermore, the layout of the parking lots, which at the time was planned for 500 cars, was stepped in order to have a better view of each car on the screen.

With the 1948 published musical film Two Guys from Texas with Jack Carson and Dennis Morgan the Drive-In cinema was opened.

Already at that time the 66 Drive-In had a snack bar and toilet facilities. The opening hours were at this time already similar, as they are today.
At the premiere in the 66 Drive-In it came to technical difficulties, as one of the audio amplifier did not work and there were also problems with the light, with one of the projectors burned out.

1997 the Drive – In was reopened after 20 years of closure. The Drive In ist open from april to Mid September every year.
