Grafton Ghost Town
Grafton was settled by Mormons in 1859 by five families.
They farmed cotton and food crops.
Then in 1862, the Virgin River flooded and washed away the entire town.
They built the town again a few miles upstream.
The next challenge were conflicts with the Black Hawk and other native peoples around 1866. the inhabitants got the order to move in small villages with at least 150 people.
So, Grafton was abandoned, but farmers still came to tend their crops.
Today Grafton hat 4 buildings including a schoolhouse
The town appears in several films including “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”
To get there you have to drive an a clay road for about 0.7 miles – which may be impassable during/after heavy rain.
