Packard Automotive Plant - Detroit

The Packard Automotive Plant is a former automobile-manufacturing factory in Detroit.
First Luxury cars were made by the Packard Motor Car Company and later by the Studebaker-Packard Corporation.

The old plant is located on East Grand Boulevard on the city’s east side. It included the first use of reinforced concrete in the United States for industrial construction in the automobile industry.
In 1903 the Packard plant was opened and at the time it was considered the most modern automobile manufacturing facility in the world.

At the good times 40.000 people were employed.
During 1903 to 1956 they built Packard automobiles, except during World War II, when production was shifted to war material.

The whole factory complex closed in 1958. During this time some business used it as storage.
In the 1990s, the buildings were used to host infamous techno parties, including the Spastik party hosted by Richie Hawtin.

In 2010, the last remaining tenant, announced its intention to leave the premises after 52 years.
During the last 10 years several tries were done to get new live into the plant.

There some plans to do so. Check the website http://packardplantproject.com/
