Vasehenge - Zainesville
Zanesville was once the pottery capital of the United States. Several deposits of the clay were found near the city.
The “Clay City” was home once home of many pottery companies. One of them was Weller Pottery, which employed 1,500 workers, making it Zanesville’s largest employer.
Every year Zanesville hosts an annual pottery festival and was once home to the world’s largest vase.
As part of a local project in the 2000s, a group of artists created 100 oversized vases.
Each vase stands taller than 5.9 ft and is painted with a different design.
Most of the vases were auctioned. The leftovers were arranged in a circle at the foot of the Y-Bridge. Today known as vasehenge.
Some more vases are standing in Zanesville Downtown.
