Cuervo Ghost Town
Abandoned buildings and even entire towns are common in this area. Because New Mexico’s history is closely tied to mining and railroads. So many towns had a brief period of heydays, followed by a bust.
Some ghost towns are very fascinating, while others are just creepy. Cuervo is one such town.
Cuervo came to life at the start of the 20th century. This little railroad town was operated fine for several years. It profited from Route 66-travelers, which passed through town.
Then the Interstate came. The interstate literally cut Cuervo in two parts. The town died.
Today in Cuervo live round 50 residents. The post office closed down in 2011, Cuervo became unincorporated.
Cuervo is a now ghost town.
Cuervo’s Catholic stone church is the best-preserved of the buildings. But its doors are closed.
