Seligman

Seligman is a small town. The location on the former Route 66 made it after the recollection of the importance of this old East-West connection to a tourist attraction. The place calls itself “Birthplace of the historic Route 66”.

Between 1889 and 1891 Seligman was founded by two families from the southern states. These had lost their property after the civil war and then moved west. In the largely uninhabited area south of the Grand Canyon in today’s Arizona, they found a new home. They took over the area of today’s Seligman from the Cherokee Indians.

Seligman

Seligman is the home of the original fast food restaurant Delgadillo’s Snow Cap Drive-In, which was opened in 1953 by Juan Delgadillo and has now reached cult status.
Until his death on 2 June 2004, he entertained his guests with original sayings and funny jokes.
His brother Angel Delgadillo, one of the initiators and co-founders of the Route 66 Association, has been running the local barber shop next door for decades.
The barber shop has become a meeting place for Route 66 enthusiasts from around the world.

Seligman has much more to offer. Some original Route 66 Motels, local restaurants and a lot of cool stuff to take pictures with.
Tipp: Visit early morning or evenings the busses with the big group of tourist are gone by then.
