Nelson - Ghost Town

Nelson was formerly called, in the year 1775, Nelson, but Eldorado. The Spain’s, who discovered this area found gold in the Eldorado Canyon.

One hundred years later, the mine owners took over and founded the famous Techatticup Mine. The mines were active from 1858 to 1945.

Nelson is near Las Vegas. Drive south on Hwy 95, then take the turnoff onto the 165. After a few miles through the desert you reach a place called Nelson, but here you only find new houses, because the old ghost town is about 3 km further behind a bend.

The town is touristy, but much of its originality has been preserved. There are old cars, a few houses, an old gas station and a junkyard on which there is also an airplane wreck.
