Coaldale Ghost Town

In 1894 coal was discovered near Coaldale by William Groszenger.
By 1911, the Darms mine and the Nevada Coal and Fuel Co. mines were in operation and sold 150 tons to the Columbus Marsh Borax Works.
In the early 1900s, interest in coal was reawakened when Dr. Frances Williams from Goldfield, Nevada, personally resumed the promotion.

At that time Groszenger retained the majority of the mine. In November 1917, the Darms Mining Company called on the Nevada Railroads Commission to pay a rate of $ 3 per ton to deliver coal from Coaldale to Reno.

The owners of the mine found the price but too high, as they also had doubts about the value of coal, so you could not agree and the promotion was discontinued in 1918.In the 1940s, Eldon and Jewel Parson operated a gas station near the Tonopah Railway and Goldfield Railroad.

Coaldale Ghost Town

Later, they moved their business about a mile to the very junction with Highway 95. Coaldale had until 1993 a shop, a cafe, a motel and a gas station. The gas station was shut down in 1993 on the basis of EPA tests, which found that the underground fuel tanks were leaking.

Soon, the restaurant and the motel had to be closed, as the gas station was the main attraction for travelers who now stayed out. At some point in 2006, a fire destroyed the restaurant.
