Gemini Giant
The Gemini Giant is a Muffler Man on Route 66. It is located at the eastern side to Wilmington, standing in front of the Launching Pad drive-in restaurant (new open since 2018)
The 30 foot tall statue is one of many giant “Muffler Man” throughout the USA.
The Gemini Giant is named after the Gemini space program and he holds a “rocket ship” in his hands, he is wearing an astronaut’s space helmet.
Both the Launching Pad and the Gemini Giant were inducted into the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame in 2000.
As we visited in 2013 the restaurant was closed, we met Jerry Gattis. He told us, he hopes it will reopen some day.
In 2019 the Launchig Pad reopened.
